Not so good at this blogging thing

After following so many amazing bloggers, I've realized just what a crappy (or not so good) writer I am. I read their blogs, and I'm thinking, "wow I really suck at this". I have a hard time coming up with topics to talk about, and I'm sure many times it's more interesting for me than for anyone else. I mean, who really wants to hear about what I knitting or what I'm doing this weekend. I know my family appreciates seeing pictures and hearing about the girls, but sometimes I just think to myself, is it even worth it.

I think I really need to take a class on blogging and I would totally do it! I'm just thankful for all of you who actually do read and comment, because I really do appreciate it and it makes me smile every single time I see a comment.

  1. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to blog, it's really like an online diary! I enjoy reading your blog and seeing all the cool things you knit and of course seeing the pictures of those cute little girls!

  2. Yea, we all suck at this. I haven't blogged in several weeks (got several ideas, but haven't sat down to write yet). You could compare it to the 365project.org thing. I am a month and a half into it now it and it is like... ok what do I shoot now. Bleh who cares, I take pictures of what I want, what is happening in my life. Sure it might not be a pretty flower or an awesome landscape, but it is my life, God gave it to me and I take pics of what I want/like. Blogging is the same way, don't see it as mainly a way to "write" to others, look at it like a written history of your life.

Jey is right, 10 years from now (hopefully) you can look back on your blog and have a detailed history of what happened and when, what projects you knitted, what parties the girls attended. It's not just for everyone else, it's for you and your family :)

As an example, Laura has printed and pdf'd all the blogs I did while she was in the hospital. Why? it's a detailed history of a time that she doesn't remember. We will all forget some of our memories as time goes by, but the blog can always remind us.

Now get to bloggin :) (I know, I should too)

  3. I am a faithful reader of your blog, (as well as your siblings' blogs. It is an easy way to keep up with your life without pestering you with phone calls or email messages, when your spare time is so limited. Love you...

  4. hey! i think you're being hard on yourself!

    1) writing improves the more you write, so keep writing!
    2) the focus of a blog shifts over time, and it reflects your life. so right now, with such small children and just a bit of knitting time, that's what your blog's about. it'll shift over time.
    3) if you write about what matters to you, it's inherently interesting. if you just randomly pick a topic you're not interested in, it'll be boring. you aren't boring.
    4) i was just talking with my daughter about this. she'd said what you said -- "but who wants to hear about x or y, my little life." well, first of all, I DO, but second of all, it's not just the 'then this happened then that happened' diary entry that's interesting, it's the you of it, your take, what you notice, what you think about.

and mainly, don't be so hard on yourself! i love your blog. i love seeing those adorable girls, and what you're knitting. and i've only met you here, on our blogs, so it's not like i've been loving you in the real world for 20 years. :) you've got a blog that's interesting enough to capture strangers and make them come back. that's pretty darn good.

  5. Thank you all so much for your comments and you are all correct. :) I'll just keep doing my little thing, because really, it is for me. Thanks for the little "pick me up" today, as I really needed it.
